I'm glad that it came up because as I reflected more and more I realized that I shouldn't feel bad for not having a lot of experience in public schools because that environment wasn't right for me. If I could start over again though I would be a high school English teacher. I think working with older kids in a subject that I love like English would have been a good fit. But at the time I was not a fan of most high school reading lists especially the classics which is why I probably went into early childhood :) Thanks for reading my blog. Send me a link to your so I can follow you too!Djoneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04225662921612213494noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1307167502934743565.post-65703727893030617652011-03-02T18:23:05.100-05:002011-03-02T18:23:05.100-05:00Hey Denisha,
If that HS friend was me, I'm so...Hey Denisha,

If that HS friend was me, I'm sorry - I certainly didn't mean anything by it, other than to let you know what I've been up to professionally.

Teaching is a complex field; when you deal with people developing across the lifespan, you're going to run into unique challenges at every level. I did a practicum experience in a 7th grade classroom as a college junior, and my cooperating teacher remarked to a friend, "He'll make a good... high school teacher one day." She was right - my time as a high school teacher was, by all accounts, successful, but I was not cut out for teaching middle school. I don't know if I'd last a week in a kindergarten classroom!

Whether it's the behavioral stuff at the elementary level, the emotional rollercoaster of junior high, or the adolescent discovery and experimentation in high school, teaching has its unique challenges at all levels. I'm sure college teaching has its own set of challenges as well. I'm glad you found your niche!

Also, for what it's worth, don't sweat the work experience thing. In some respects, I'd be very glad to switch with you and be nearly done my doctoral studies. Instead I'm still trying to get my foot in the door somewhere, and have a long journey ahead of me!Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14720830674647398374noreply@blogger.com
